Course Outline

The Certificate IV in Animal Behaviour and Training has been designed for those with experience in working with and caring for animals, to develop the skills required to interpret animal behaviour, apply animal learning theory, and to evaluate best practice conditioning and training methodologies and techniques to meet the welfare needs of animals, and to provide ethical services for their carers/clients. Working with a specific species or across a range of species, this qualification provides options for those working in animal rehoming/adoption, rehabilitation roles, exhibited animal facilities or who specialise in conditioning or training different species.

It is our belief that you cannot learn 'behaviour' through self-paced online learning; you need to be immersed into seeing problem behaviours and we achieve this through delivering face to face weekly theory classes and through work placement in a referral behaviour centre or shelter. This allows you to visualise various behaviours and we can support you with our knowledge and experience in how to deal with them. We do not use 'own dogs' as part of the placement and because this course is run over the year you are exposed to 44 weeks of placement not just a few days.

*Placements are at set practices where possible, in most instances travel to the facility will be required (at your own expense).

Entry requirements

Whilst there are no official entry requirements, this extremely sought after course has limited placements so that we can offer you a personal training experience. The Animal Academy highly recommends that a Certificate III in Animal Care Services or higher is held as those with experience will take precedence for placements. Those with prior industry experience will also be considered for placements.

If you are an International student, this course meets the requirements of a 'fulltime' course and is a perfect segway from the Certificate IV Veterinary Nursing. If you are looking for your next course to study...this ones perfect!
